Basically when the trains go down the track it's too steep and they keep going straight off the track instead of turning the corner. We tried adding some straight long tracks but the train still goes off the track. The mountain guard doesn't help - it just get's pushed aside. The mountain itself is made well, Aesthetically, as well as sturdy. Though it's also difficult to push the trains up the mountain due to the little entrance ways (for adult hands but little hands do well). My son doesn't mind, he get's several hours of entertainment from it. BUT, the cost and the design from an adult standpoint is very concerning - so that's why it get's an overall 3 stars. WARNING - it's LOUD! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Mount Doom, = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Rumble And Race Mountain Set (Toy) This set consists of a wood mountain in two flat boards connected at a right angle, with a central plastic peak that spits out up to 3 plastic snowballs. There is also some plastic white "frozen" track and some wooden railway. The wooden railway consists of two tall ramps that connect to the plastic railway and some connector track; including a double male piece and some sharp corners. There is a plastic channel/gorge with a piece of hanging ice. Also included are two exclusive snow covered Thomas engines. My son loved it! The mountain rumbles as the trains move over switches in the track road; or you can press a button to get the same effect, or you can push the snow balls out. The snow balls are well weighted and follow the trains down the track and ramp. My son cries out: "Snowballs hurt trains!" The trains derail at the bottom, but if you add some bridges or strait track they do not derail. Mine goes down and up the Pirate cove skull mountain to reveal... The wind and avalanche sounds are very loud and scare him. So for now, he plays with it without the sound. Since it's not being used for what it was meant for, I don't really think it was worth buying. My son manually makes the snowballs chase Thomas so since he's not using the automatic features I could have just bought a cheaper set. The set does have sensors that turn on the wind sound, then the sound of an avalanche with pieces of the mountain that shake and the third sensor makes a snowball come down the mountain. The trains have to pass over the sensors in order so it doesn't work if the child chooses to go in the opposite direction. But that doesn't matter at my house since it hasn't been turned on since we got it and the noise scared my toddler. My son doesn't scare easily so I was surprised that it scared him. Maybe when he gets older, we can turn it on because it really... Read more |
